Is Stress Killing You without You Knowing It?
As I stood in front of the mirror looking at my naked hot bod before jumping in the shower, I lift my now slightly sagging but still perfectly shaped boob and notice that the itchy hive is still there. You see, I get hives when I'm stressed and this time they appeared under my boob and in my groin. My body obviously has a sense of humour.
When I first got hives all over my red hot bod, I thought a hyper active mosquito had me for breakfast, dinner and lunch. It was only until a friend told me that they were a reaction, that I knew what they were.. And then I thought it was something I ate.
It took me years to realise that the hives appeared when I suppressed my Red Hot Truth, and allowed myself to be walked over. I swear I was a walking pimple when I stayed in toxic work environments. Mentally I'd logic-sized (yes I made that up) why I should stay in the job but the body never lies.
The world rewards you with titles, money and status for burning the candle at both ends. The normal responses when you ask a fellow Truth Sista, 'so how you going?' is BUSY and/or STRESSED.
Yes we worship proficiency, efficiency and productivity, constantly looking for ways to do more. We ignore our body telling us that it's stressed and needs a break with stiffness, aches and cramps. Instead we self medicate ignoring the signs.
There's never a good time to get sick right?
Until you, like Lynda, collapse on the shower floor with a lump full of your own hair in your hand, unable to move. And then you ask yourself, how did I let it get this far?
So how do you know you're stressed and when you're pushing it too far?
